Objectives

To bring delegates up to date with the announcements and documents revealed on the 30 October 2024 budget. This is to include understanding the technical points behind the 20:20 Innovation produced marketing content, thereby facilitating easy answering of client queries.

Also, to identify any planning opportunities or action required before 5 April 2025.

Key topics

With a Halloween slant to identify tricks or treats (mainly tricks?) we will review the key measures across:

  • Personal taxes
  • Capital taxes
  • Employment taxes
  • Business taxes including the new roadmap
  • SDLT

This will include emphasis on where and when additional tax revenues are being raised; possibly from capital gains tax, inheritance tax and pensions.

HMRC administration and service standards will also be reviewed, including any updates on the timing or scope of the April 2026 Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax initiative.

An update will also be provided on pre-announced measures including:

  • Furnished Holiday Lets (FHL) - the end of tax advantages from 6 April 2025
  • Non-domiciled individuals – the end of the remittance basis from 6 April 2025, with a new foreign income and gains (FIG) regime coming in, providing relief for the early years of UK residence only. More detail will be revealed about transitional rules alongside associated changed for inheritance tax.
  • VAT on private school tuition and boarding fees from January 2025.
