06 Jun 2025

20:20 Innovation is proud to announce that Nichola Ross Martin CTA (Fellow) FCA, the organisation’s Technical Consultant – Tax, has been appointed as President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).

Nichola will officially take up the role at the CIOT’s Annual General Meeting on 29th May 2025, following a three-year leadership journey within the Institute as Vice President, then Deputy President.

The CIOT is the UK’s leading tax-educational charity, promoting education, standards, and dialogue in the field of taxation. As President, Nichola will serve as a key ambassador for the Institute, supporting its charitable aims and representing its interests with members, students, professional bodies, HMRC, and the wider tax community.

Nichola will chair the CIOT’s Council of Trustees and work closely with CEO Helen Whiteman and her team on governance, strategic direction, and member engagement.

Commenting on her appointment, Nichola said, “I am delighted to take up this appointment. Tax is such an important part of all our lives, and I relish the opportunity to be able to promote tax education with the UK’s leading tax-educational charity.”

Her presidency comes at a time of major reform in the UK tax system. Under the new government led by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, significant legislative changes are underway, including the continuing rollout of Making Tax Digital to a wider cohort of taxpayers and major reforms to Inheritance tax. Nichola’s expertise and insight will be invaluable as the CIOT continues to scrutinise new legislation and advise both policymakers and practitioners on its implications.

Nichola’s priorities for the year include ensuring that the CIOT remains a strong, respected voice for the tax profession and strengthening relationships across the tax and accounting sector. She also plans to engage directly with members, students and stakeholders to further promote high standards of tax education and professional practice.

20:20 Innovation congratulates Nichola on this prestigious appointment and looks forward to supporting her as she brings her extensive knowledge and passion for tax to this national leadership role.
